So the question for us readers of these words is simple—can we identify the religious rubbish in our lives that provokes boasting and causes us to diminish Christ and our fellow believers?
She was all done. I had carried her home. My heart sang at the thought of one day saying, “all done Jesus. I am home.”
For that is precisely what it means to reject a theology of perfectionism. It means to announce a remaining lack that can only, for now, be fulfilled by the church community.
However, I would like to point out a few problems with the idea that God requires sinless perfection.
Jesus does not save you just to leave you where you are. Jesus saves you, gives you a new heart, works in your life, comforts and empowers you, and enables you to love your neighbor.
May this be our constant motivation to see the "them" in a way our Savior God would have us see them. Loved. Deeply.
Can I say this without being accused of heresy: maybe our confessions aren’t useful if we use them as a way to truncate the Scriptures rather than let them speak?
My children take great joy in the smallest things. And I enjoy their joy. Christian obedience is something like this. God, through His Spirit, works in us the smallest of obedience. This becomes the smallest of pleasures. And it pleases Him.
A healthy understanding of sin recognizes it's dominion over everything that does not belong to Christ. Among those who belong to Christ sin no longer has dominion. It has been put to shame. It has been mocked and ridiculed on the stage of redemptive history. Sanctification lives in this reality.
The true beauty of Easter Sunday is that on Monday we through Christ remain resurrected unto newness of life.
We have allowed people to stop acting in accordance with God's word because they are tempted toward self-righteousness when they do so. This is foolishness and unbiblical. We need to repent of our laziness and do the hard work of
