Lord's Prayer Meditations: “Name” is Personal

“Hallowed be your name”

Meditation 4: “Name” is Personal

In the Bible, a name is often an important indicator of character (1 Sam 25:25). This too is true with the name of God (Psa 148:13). His name is holy because His character is holy. The praise of His name is the praise of His character and all He does.

God does not share His name. And God does not share His praise or glory (Isa 42:8). But God has in fact called us by His name and He has created us for His glory (Isa 43:7). Before the particular petitions of the Lord’s Prayer, God’s glory must be affirmed by praising His name. This is how we should pray.

Joshua Torrey is the sole proprietor of Torrey Gazette (don't tell Alaina) and the fullness of its editorial process. That means everything wrong with TG can legitimately be blamed on him.
