“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”
Meditation 1: “Your kingdom come”
After the proclamation of praise for God’s name and glory, the Lord’s Prayer teaches us what brings the Father glory: God desires for His kingdom to come. We are to pray this is fulfilled in the repentance of lost sinners (Matt 3:2).
This kingdom was being inaugurated in Jesus Christ’s ministry (Luke 17:21). Though Jesus’ kingdom rule is not of this world (John 18:36), it came to reside in this world with power (Isa 9:6-7). When we pray it is to expand this kingdom through the gospel of repentance.
