“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”
Meditation 2: “Kingdom” is Covenantal
Since we have affirmed that the Father’s kingdom has in fact come through His Son, it is important to see how this fulfills God’s promises (2 Sam 7:12-16). This promise is in fact God’s covenant with David (2 Chron 7:18; 13:5; 21:7).
This promise was sung by Israel (Psa 2:7-12) and fulfilled in Christ’s baptism (Matt 3:17) and transfiguration (Matt 17:5). A gospel that points to Christ’s kingdom glorifies God by acknowledging His promises. We are to pray for this kingdom to bring glory to God the Father.
