Bible Blogging Commentary: Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. - Genesis 1:1

If we are able to read this verse without awe, we have already begun to grow cold towards the Scriptures. This verse does not speak to the scientific importance or prominence of God but of the ontological importance of a loving God.

We must affirm that God did not need to create. Yet He did create despite the ultimate cost of Jesus Christ. Beyond being a simple creation, it was a creation to an end. It was a creation unto an end on a cross. It was a creation prepared to make manifest the greatest historical example of God's glory and love.
