The Dating of Revelation - Don Preston Review #1
Note: Don Preston is a full preterist and therefore his teaching cannot receive full or blind acceptance. His many videos on YouTube are worthy of listening and interacting with in a timeline manner.
After completing our lengthy series on Matthew 16, I'm jumping ahead in Don Preston YouTube video history. These videos started in May (in fact these posts were written in May) and provide a sitting down Preston.
The dating of the book of Revelation is so fundamentally important to the preterist opinion that I couldn't pass up the chance to review this series. Not only because it would be good for the blog but also because I could use some teaching on the subject as well. So without further ado...
@0:10: It's not likely Monday morning for us. This will not affect the dating of Revelation! :-)
@1:10: The dating of Revelation is actually more critical for Mr Preston than for me. His "full preterism/covenant eschatology" works on the basis that all Biblical prophecy was satisfied in A.D. 70.
Since I've always had an infinity for the idealist perspective on Revelation (thanks Sinclair Ferguson), it wouldn't be overly devastating to my postmillennialism to adopt that view. I could still retain a preterist reading of the rest of the New Testament as well.
@2:00: I haven't thought of the identity of "Babylon" as something that was important. I've been working through portions of it on my own. I'm waiting to see where Ken Gentry comes down in his upcoming commentary on Revelation. For the time being, I guess I'll just sit back and listen with the rest of you guys.
@5:12: I have never been the recipient of this argument. Very interesting. An even better response from Mr Preston. This link back to the testified knowledge of the Father is pretty important.
@9:39: This is crucial. This presupposition denies any option for reading the book in a futurist manner. This time frame reference limits the context of John's book to a small amount of time. Likewise then the content of the book must be satisfied and fulfilled shortly after the visions.
