That really is the crux question of many doctrinal differences between denominations. In particular Baptists tend to prefer the New Testament say something explicitly. But what revelation gives us the slightest idea that this should be the standard working model of God's revelation? Likewise, opponents of theonomy tend to stress the change in the New Covenant. Of course there are changes. But does that automatically entail that God's standard of moral law has changed? Well answers vary but Mr Gentry makes a strong argument that only theonomy retains a whole and intact Scripture.
4. The Church and State are Distinct in the Old Testament.
This statement is huge. I mean really, really huge. Many confusions in my initial encounters with theonomy stemmed from this. Many people struggle to understand this and communicate it faithfully. Often portrayals of theonomy will exclude this important truth.
I did not campaign for the plastic bag ban. I am not even sure how I feel about the governing authorities using their power to require reusable bags. But golly.
Everything started quite innocently: I want my kid to know stuff. I want her to be able to identify the moon, the sun, trees, rocks, cars, houses, grass....you get the pictue. Nature stands in front of us as a way to teach our children. But to what end? "Child, what is that?" must be followed by "And Child, who made it?".
So simple really. Our little girl was looking for the boundaries and consistency she experiences throughout the day. Just because the lights went out doesn't mean our parenting gets put to sleep for the night.
