Hi.

Torrey Gazette is the combined work of everyday Christians blogging on books, family, art, and theology. So pull up a seat and join us. Family Table rules apply. Shouting is totally acceptable.

Weekend Wildness...on our rather tame scale.

Weekend Wildness...on our rather tame scale.

Oh the joys of an eventful weekend. This past Saturday we unlocked a mystery, partied like youths (which we are not), and celebrated a birthday with blind beer tasting. Luckily, pictures were taken. Come along; witness the fun!

22 weeks and ready to know if we're anticipating our Olivia or our Peter!

My parents were able to make the reveal, hosted by my lovely sister-in-law Deborah, assisted by her wonderful mother and sister. With Chinese birth charts, old wives tales, and the "string test" to guide our guesses, everyone chose a gender to cheer on.

 Kenzie quite uniquely chose "girl".

 Judah quite unconcernedly chose "boy".

The theme for the reveal was: "What Will It Beeee?"

Tasty and over-the-top adorable. Loved it!

Cascarones...multi-colored save one....filled with either pink or blue!

Unwilling to follow convention (although I happen to love all the traditional reveal methods), and wanting to acknowledge Joshua's birthday - the same day as the reveal - we chose to use cascarones for our "tell-tale". With approximately 28 (Joshua's new age!) confetti eggs prepped for the event, one in the bunch had the gender color confetti while all the others were multi-colored.

Kenzie and Judah cracked the confetti eggs on Joshua's head...one at a time!

 PINK!

PINK!

All was going according to plan, with each future big sibling taking turns cracking the cascarones on "daddy's" head - with some help from myself and both sets of grandparents when needed. Until K dropped one egg off Joshua's head and he picked it up from the table, cracking it in his hand. Which ended up being the revealing egg - PINK! We're having a girl!

The day didn't end there. Grandparents watched littles so we could celebrate Joshua's birthday in style - at a local Austin Brewery's 10th anniversary party. Joshua's siblings and significant others (except Caleb...being underage) joined us for fun, food, and hilarity.

On Sunday, everyone was back for more...beer! In honor of Oktoberfest we collected 7 different Oktoberfest brews and hosted a blind beer tasting. With traditional, hearty German appetizers, rhythmic German "oompah" music, and great company the beer tasting was a blast.

Boasting two legitimate Oktoberfest brews (brewed in Munich) the brews surprised with their variances.

 My standard go-to appetizer...yum!

We laughed, rejoiced, and feasted this weekend. It proved a wonderful time with family and friends, celebrating new and continued life. Cheers!
