Lord's Prayer Meditations: “Our” is Corporate

“Our Father in heaven”

Meditation 2: “Our” is Corporate

It is a wonderful thing to know that God is in fact a personal God who is faithful to His promises. But why does the prayer read “our Father” and not “my Father”? That is because God’s people are one body (Eph 4:4). In another place, Paul teaches us that this is why we seek the good for our brothers & sisters in Christ (1 Cor 10:24, 32-33).

God is both our Father and He is the Father of the church. We pray this prayer together and we pray for each other (Eph 1:15-18) because God has made promises to the entire church. This is how we should pray.
