Now and Then

You see, I like oldies. I cut my musical teeth on the hits from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. In our home my parents preferred Easy Listening, but my friends listened to Top 40. Needless to say, I learned to appreciate a wide variety from both sides.

Christianity in the Movies

All too often we believe that externals are not important. Style, language, and form are deemed entirely subjective to most Christians. Most Christians believe that form and content have no relationship to each other. While Hollywood certainly has much to learn from the Christian story, I think this might be one example where many modern Christians can learn something from Hollywood: FORM MATTERS!

Racism in European Soccer

Centralized organizations, whether governments or sports leagues love to "play" god. They like to try to "give" people rights (as though they have that power), they like to try to disperse blessings and curses and they like to try to reconcile groups of people. Yet in every attempt to do this without the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ only further animosity prevails.

Folk (and a Bit of Americana) Primer

I'm here to write about 5 artists/groups, hard-working, hard-touring folks, purveying a brand of genuinely heart-felt music I've been guilty of thinking no longer existed. If it lies within your power to see and hear these musicians, make it happen. If it doesn't, try legal downloads or physical-format purchases from their sites.

How to Fix College Football

In conclusion, I believe that college football is in a lot of danger with many talking heads promoting an eight team playoff. While I see the draw of such a system I ultimately believe the drawbacks to be too strong. In the end an eight team playoff would diminish the importance of every other game that is not a playoff game (and thus destroying the foundation of what has made college football what it is today). I believe a solution is to create a system where conference championship games (in a sense) serve as the national quarter-finals. In this scenario the importance of the regular season (particularly conference play) would be upheld and the feel of an eight team playoff would also be achieved.
