“Give us today our daily bread”
Meditation 4: “Daily Bread” is Personal
It is important to remember that God gave the bread as a test (Exo 16:4). People were only supposed to take exactly what they needed (Exo 16:16). At the same time, none was supposed to be left on the ground (Exo 16:19). Both of these can be true because God always meets our needs in His provision.
For the other test, the people were to pick up twice their daily amount and rest on the Sabbath. God preserved the manna two days for specially the Sabbath (Exo 16:5, 22-26). This taught supernatural reliance on God and demonstrated that the Sabbath is provision for man (Mark 2:27).
