Matthew 16:27-28 - Don Preston Review #7

27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.  -  Matthew 16:27-28

Note: Don Preston is a full preterist and therefore his teaching cannot receive full or blind acceptance. His many videos on YouTube are worthy of listening and interacting with in a timeline manner.

Well we aren't done with Daniel quite yet. Yet again, there isn't much to comment on but one crucial disagreement.

@0:50: We talked about this last time. This is not Christ's "coming". This is a crucial mistake. Christ is coming to the Ancient of Days. I feel that this must be the ascension of Christ to the right hand of the Father (Acts 1:9).

Now I know that this upsets a little of Mr Preston's chronology of Daniel. But I don't think we need to force a specific chronology on the text. The coming of the Ancient of Days brings an end to the persecution (Dan 7:22) but the Son of Man comes before Him to receive the kingdom. These events are by their very nature slightly disjointed. We'll wait for the next video to further evaluate any difficulties with this text.

@2:27: This questions about the persecuting power is answered by one's view of the whole chapter. And in this I would agree with Mr Preston that the horn was Israel. Although I'm not sure this isn't stuffing the facts just a little. As Israel persecutes the church, so Roman would be used to persecute and judge Israel.*

Note: After further study I'm not convinced the little horn can be the Jews. Perhaps in future posts I'll be able to discuss this topic and come to a definitive opinion.

Preston's Ponderings: Jesus and Daniel 7 agree that in the last days a persecuting power would arise, persecute the saints, and be destroyed at the coming of the Lord. Who was the Little Horn that Daniel mentions? Is it the Roman Catholic Church, or the Pope? Jesus identifies that Horn as Israel herself!
