Despite many modern translations of the Bible, the King James Version remains a staple in the church. For many, there remains something familiar and comfortable about reading “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters” (511) and “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (825). Seeing “St. Matthew”, “St. Mark,” etc. feels like a return to piety. Yes, this is not the English spoken today, but it has stood the test of time and remains a valuable part of the Christian community.

This edition of the KJV, Zondervan’s KJV Skinii Bible, is the second “Skinii Bible” I have gotten to review, and honestly, I love these Bibles. The hardcover “Black Italian Duo-Tone™” looks and feels good. The Bible is trendy in a minimalist fashion. It is simply an attractive Bible that I have thoroughly enjoyed using. That said, I do still wish Zondervan would offer a selection without the “Words of Christ in red.” Unlike many compact/thinline Bibles, the KJV Skinii Bible has a ribbon marker and strap to hold the Bible shut. I was impartial about the value of either feature but have used both and find myself appreciating them.

The KJV Skinii Bible reads well but noticeably different from other modern translations. Individuals not familiar with the KJV’s paragraph per verse format will appreciate the cleanness of the text but may not enjoy the discontinuity this brings to the text. In conclusion, fans of the KJV will be hard pressed to find a more stylish and efficient edition. Individuals seeking a more literal translation will thoroughly enjoy the KJV Skinii Bible as well.
