Hi.

Torrey Gazette is the combined work of everyday Christians blogging on books, family, art, and theology. So pull up a seat and join us. Family Table rules apply. Shouting is totally acceptable.

Be My Brother

Be My Brother

Never had a dream

That you would be walking this truth

Never had a dream

That you would renounce your youth

Be my brother

Everybody going round

Trying to put you down

Think they know your ways

Think it’s all just another phase

Be my brother

I can say the prayers

That you would be down and kneeling

Sending up prayers of your own

From your trembling, humbling soul

To the King of Kings’ throne

Yeah, be my brother

I can see the glory

When your voice is His

No longer calling yourself king

When you are broken, contrite

Falling down on your sorrowing knees

Understanding might don’t make right.

You could be His

We’re all in amaze

The glory of our LORD

To pick you out of your selfish craze

And make you a son of the King of Kings.

I know; I know

We ought to have known

We ought to remember where we came from

All our abysses seem oh so special

But our vices are all the same

Our wounds are all the same

And the way He heals us is oh so washing

Who cares what type of injury

Who cares what sort of perjury

We all in amaze

That you and I will praise

His name

And not your own fame.

Be my brother

Come into our LORD’s house

Everybody is welcome

We all have the same histories

They’re nothing special

Only mystery here is our LORD and God

Here we are, falling down on the same broken knees

Coming to the church of the King

Bent heads and cupped hands

Written on our lips is the Word

We cannot forget

We cannot forget.

I heard you from a distance

Shook my head at your existence

Never took the time to give a thought

That just as I was, so could you be

You, somebody’s son

You, somebody’s father

You could be my brother.
