Meditation 2: “Deliverance” is from Sin
Though deliverance from Egypt was historically important for the Jews, deliverance from sin is what Jesus came to bring (John 8:31-34). When Jesus told the Jews this they were offended. This is why Paul says the gospel is a stumbling block to the Jews (1 Cor 1:21-23). But for those who trust in God it is our point of rejoicing.
Peter says we’ve been ransomed by God’s blood (1 Pet 1:18-19) and escaped corruption (2 Pet 1:4). This has been done for us. And this is how God relates to us. And this is why we can be confident to pray in this way.
