Hi.

Christianity & Representative Government

I have written before about the correlation between good theology and positive effects on the society at large (here) but I came across the idea again so I thought I would share it again here. This time I came across this notion in Ray Sutton's essay "The Baptist Failure" in The Failure of the American Baptist Culture. Here's what Sutton has to say:

Representative rule has been expressed only where Christianity has been established. Its essential government around the Trinitarian model is the explanation. Furthermore, the Trinity rules with plurality. The "plurality principle" has thus been part of Christian civilization as well. (pg. 175)

The application of thorough Trinitarian theology is far reaching. From families to governments the Trinity is always the model. In those places where the Trinity is embraced it should come as no wonder that representative government is soon to follow!

Food for thought.
