BBC: Genesis 6:19-22
And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive. Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them.” Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. – Genesis 6:19-22
This passage is clear about God’s desires to preserve a portion of all creation. Though more clean animals will be added to Noah’s list of commandments (Gen 7:2-4), the command here is presented to demonstrate a simple preservation of creation. This command will be beneficial because the additional members of creation in the ark are added for a purpose.
The final note on this passage is that faith without works is dead (Jam 2:20). Noah had obtained righteousness through the grace of God (Gen 6:8). But now he must begin his life of obedience to construct the ark, preserve creation and deliver his household. This obedience points to the greater obedient, righteous servant Jesus Christ.
