The Dating of Revelation - Don Preston Review #14
Note: Don Preston is a full preterist and therefore his teaching cannot receive full or blind acceptance. His many videos on YouTube are worthy of listening and interacting with in a timeline manner.
@1:55: I have not read much from Joel in an extensive study form. So it looks like I'm going to learn something brand new today! I know some of the general prophecies in Joel and some application to Pentecost but that's about all.
@3:00: This is a very interesting text of Scripture. I understand the link Mr Preston is trying to make for the "judgment of all nations" but this is in vindication and restoration of Israel. In fact this all points to the fulfillment in Joel 2 that is seen historically in the Day of Pentecost.
Now I am open to an "extended fulfillment" meaning that Peter saw that day and it stretched to AD 70. But I'm struggling to see why then we need to see this subsequent days as being wholly fulfilled in specific passages of Revelation. Similar imagery doesn't mean the same event. It can remain prophetic typology for a future event.
@5:36: The fountain flowing from Zion is almost certainly in mind in Revelation 21-22 but this could also been seen as fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and the nations .
I can admit that many partial preterist are unwilling to say Revelation 21-22 have been fulfilled. This is often seen as a dangerous trek into the full preterist camp. I won't push to hard but this is a place where I am in agreement alongside Mr Preston and Orthodox Preterist Kenneth Gentry.
@8:45: This is an interesting verse. Especially since the next verse is quoted by Jesus Christ when He begins His ministry. Perhaps the timelines and New Testament application is as nice and directly applicable to AD 70 as Mr Preston would like? In either case it is a strong case for a pre-AD 70 dating of the book of Revelation.
