Today Death Dies

It is called Silent Saturday for a reason. Christ now lays in the tomb. The debate over his descent and activity are the things of historical theology. The point remains that Christ's friends secluded themselves on this Sabbath day stuck in silence.

In this silence, the question of Calvin stands strong:

"63 M. But it does not appear that we derive any advantage from this victory, since we all die.
C. That is no objection. Death is nothing now to believers, but a passage to a better life."

In the silence, there is a reminder that "better life" is in fact coming. In fact, "death is no more to be dreaded as a formidable thing" (Q.64). Somewhere in the silence, death dies.

Shh. Death does not yet know what Donne does:

And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
