BBC: Psalm 16:7-11

7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
    in the night also my heart instructs me.
8 I have set the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
    my flesh also dwells secure.
10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
    or let your holy one see corruption.
11 You make known to me the path of life;
    in your presence there is fullness of joy;
    at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

After establishing how the Lord is the covenant fulfillment for the psalmist, this psalm turns briefly to the assurances of the person seeking after God. It is the one receiving counsel and instruction (v. 7) from God that is not shaken (v. 8). Our “heart” and “flesh” can rejoice for our God is deliverer of both soul and body.

This theme of bodily deliverance finds itself repeated by the Apostle Peter when preaching about the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:24-32). David’s prophecy is about Christ. Also though, David’s resurrection is confirmed in Jesus Christ. For us who reside on “the path of life” (v. 11) there is a promise to sit at the “right hand” (Eph 1:20 2:6).
