“Give us today our daily bread”

Meditation 3: “Daily Bread” is History

Shortly after the exodus of Egypt, the people of Israel were provided daily bread by God. This bread, manna, fell every day onto the ground for the people to collect. While God provided the bread, the people were responsible to collect it each and every day (Exo 16:4).

The principal behind this is that we are to be daily dependent but also faithful to work for the provisions of the Lord. The people of Israel failed to enjoy God’s provision. By praying the Lord’s Prayer, we learn to be satisfied with God’s provision.
