“And lead us not into temptation”

Meditation 5: “Temptation” is Avoidable

Given that those in Christ are a “new creation” (2 Cor 5:17), it is important to teach that while we pray for God’s mercy and grace we must also rely on it. This reliance can keep us from both temptation and sin.

Bad company corrupts (1 Cor 15:33). Those who dwell on God’s word are blessed (Psalm 1:1-2). Love for God is against love for the world (1 John 2:15-16). We are called to be holy as God is holy (1 Pet 1:16). We are called out from all unclean things (2 Cor 6:16-18). All these are commanded because of what we are and because we’ve been empowered to fulfill them. Daily we are to pray for this empowerment.
