Biographies are an acquired taste. Interest in history, contextual details, and life stories is not something ingrained in any generation of book readers. Jonathan Edwards’s life is quite common which makes the man himself intriguing. He possessed a world-shaking intellect and yet he served most of his life as a simple pastor. He served as a simple, note-reading preacher in the days leading up to the Great Awakening. His tenure as president of Princeton Seminary lasted mere months before his eventual death. Yet, this giant of theology wrote the most lasting treatises on doctrine of his generation. Simonetta Carr does an outstanding job outlining the life of Edwards in simple sentences and paragraphs. Young adults will find the reading easy while engaging the important details of Edwards’s life.

The illustrations, photographs, and historical art that accompany each page are wonderful. The final pages of “Did You Know?” provide even more interesting facts about Edwards and his family. In conclusion, Jonathan Edwards is a wonderful volume to place in front of children. Though far from a complete biography on the theology, philosophy, and history of Edwards, Carr does an excellent job of capturing the framework of this godly man.
