Gay College Football Players & American Politics
Okay, so for those of you who don't know. Michael Sam, defensive SEC player of the year (2013), came out publicly that he was Gay on Sunday night.

This news sent shock waves through Twitterdom all the way to the far reaches of the inter webs.
I was content to make a sly remark on the topic simply noting [sarcastically] how authentic all the supporting sentiments were among the masses. I simply had in mind to leave things there. I knew the mindless media masses would wholeheartedly support Michael Sam and I wasn't too interested in the whole situation. Same story, different book.
However, yesterday I was scrolling through my Twitter feed and someone retweeted the following tweet from Michelle Obama:
You're an inspiration to all of us, @MikeSamFootball. We couldn't be prouder of your courage both on and off the field. -mo

Upon reading this I could not help myself, I had to address this situation on my blog. So here I am.
What does a tweet from our nations first lady about a gay college football player's sexuality reveal about our national sentiments?
In my estimation, this sort of behavior from highly visible political personalities reveals what our culture sees as most important: Self Expression.
The current moral compass of American society is "be true to yourself".
In fact, we are shaping every nook and cranny of our society around this sentiment.
What makes this so scary is that government agencies seem hellbent on providing the populous whatever it is they want, whatever it is that makes them "happy":
Want a divorce? We can give you that!
Want to marry someone of the same sex? We can give you that!
Want to be accepted for "who you are"? We accept you!
Except here's the catch. This god government wants your acceptance right back. They don't care what you want to do. As long as you don't care what they do. This is what we might call a classic "bait & switch".
You want money (welfare), sex (sex education), marriage (gay rights), drugs (Colorado) you can have them, just give us power, give us authority, make us your god. We can provide for you, we can make all your dreams come true.
The end result of this is just like the end result in any other totalitarian form of government throughout history. I would like to illustrate this using a word picture from this smart man named Daniel who lived a long time ago.
Picture this: There is a great statue. The head of the statue was made of gold. The torso of silver. The legs of bronze. The feet of clay (Daniel 2:32-33).
[We all should be feeling a little uneasy at this point shouldn't we? Leaning Tower of Pizza only worse right?]
A stone hits the clay feet and the whole statue comes crumbling down. The stone grows into a mountain that fills the earth (Daniel 2:34-35)
All those who set themselves up against the Lord as god will go Humpdy Dumpdy (Psalm 2).
What is this stone? It is the stone that the builders rejected. It has become the corner stone, Jesus Christ. Upon His shoulders will be the nations and His government shall have no end (Isaiah6).
As you can see, this post has gotten a long away from the whole Michael Sam/Gay Rights/FLOTUS situation because that is merely a reflection of the direction our nation has been headed for a long time.
On an individual level people have made themselves God. This has meant that they will make the government god in order to obtain the desires of their own little goddome.
Food for thought.
