BBC: Genesis 7:1
Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.” – Genesis 7:1
This passage is foundational to a proper view of the Scriptures. God’s covenant is only made with Noah but the provision of deliverance is given to all his family (Gen 6:18). In the LXX, the word here matches the word used to describe the practice of baptism in the New Testament.
Briefly looking ahead, it is after this deliverance that the covenant is then given to Noah’s whole sons (Gen 9:8-17). This “two covenants” idea is seen in Abraham and circumcision, Mount Sinai with the first and second generation and finally Christ and the church.
Deliverance is associated with the first of the covenants. It is the covenant made with Noah because of his righteousness that delivers his family. This patriarchal form of deliverance will be seen again in Abraham and Christ.
