The Dating of Revelation - Don Preston Review #6

Note: Don Preston is a full preterist and therefore his teaching cannot receive full or blind acceptance. His many videos on YouTube are worthy of listening and interacting with in a timeline manner.

@1:12: This is going to be an interesting video. The argument he is going up against is the very argument liberals use to discredit the early date of 1 Peter. I'm interested in seeing how Mr Preston works this one out.

@2:54: This argument stemming from meats sacrificed to idols is interesting. I will agree that this controversy would sync up with an early date better than a late date.

There wasn't much content to this video. It was rather straight forward. I am left with a couple questions. It is clear from this letter (Rev 2:12-17) that God is holding this practice against the church. My only thought on this would be that the food and sexual immorality are mentioned together to comprise pagan worship. Because I think the focus of this is entirely on pagan idol worship, I am not convinced that this is as sternly linked to Jewish conflict.

Likewise, Paul's writing on eating food offered to idols is built off the denial of any reality to idols. Paul does not permit sexual immorality associated with pagan worship. So I'm not sure how the dating of Paul's writing affects the dating of Christ's letter to the church at Pergamum.

Morning Musings: The church at Pergamos had a controversy swirling that when considered in light of Acts, Romans and Corinthians, virtually demands the early date of Revelation. The late date does not fit this situation at all! Take a look and pass it on! MM-373
