The Dating of Revelation - Don Preston Review #2

Note: Don Preston is a full preterist and therefore his teaching cannot receive full or blind acceptance. His many videos on YouTube are worthy of listening and interacting with in a timeline manner.

@0:38: This is an important confession from Mr Preston. A post A.D. 70 dating ruins his theology. His "covenant eschatology" includes the resurrection promised in the book of Revelation. This is why his full preterism is heretical.

@2:58: This is so big. God does not reveal Himself for confusion. Any Christians who think He does have fallen into the trap of postmodernity and paganism. God reveals Himself to be understood. And He uses language throughout the Scriptures that prove this accommodation that we might understand Him. Thus when God reveals Himself in time it would be deceptive and confusing for Him to language that is only properly understood outside time.

@4:00: χρόνος (chronos 5550) is the generic word. The word καιρός (kairos 2540) is a theological and eschatological word (Matt 8:29, 26:18).

@6:45: This is a good critical thought. But it really can't be thought of as an argument. There are many strong arguments against the A.D. 70 dating. Mr Preston is fighting a strong battle against the futurist, dispensational premillennial, view but his argument does not negate the idealist view.

Morning Musings: What event that can be described as the Day of the Lord-- as Biblically defined-- occurred within a short time of 95-98 AD (if Revelation was written then)? Nothing! And yet, Revelation-- as revealed by the Father who knew the divinely appointed time for the fulfillment-- said emphatically that fulfillment was at hand.
