Matthew 16:27-28 - Don Preston Review #6

27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.  -  Matthew 16:27-28

Note: Don Preston is a full preterist and therefore his teaching cannot receive full or blind acceptance. His many videos on YouTube are worthy of listening and interacting with in a timeline manner.

There is no book in the Bible that I feel less confident about than Daniel. I'm beginning to understand more of the book at its core. But there are many different prophetic themes that still leave me with questions. Thankfully this video is short and my comments are even shorter. Very little I can expressly disagree with in any of this.

@3:00: This is a fun chart and a good place to start making some observations. I do not deny that Daniel 7 should be interpreted in a preteristic fashion. There are some interesting reflections that need to be poured into this idea of persecution. Without too much confusion, it must be asked who is the people doing the persecuting? Many only recognize that there was Roman persecution of Christians starting and culminating after Nero. But Mr Preston and I would likely agree on the focus of Jewish persecution on the believers. I think this is both what Jesus and Paul (2 Thess 1) highlight above all.*

@4:40: This is the crucial point to take away from this. This is an important time text that cannot be ignored. The only thing I would like to stress is that within Daniel 7 we see the ascension of Christ being described and the kingdom being handed over at that time (Dan 7:13-14). This is only crucial because the observes of Christ's commands are inheritors of this very kingdom (Dan 7:22, 27).

Note: After further study I'm not convinced the little horn can be the Jews. Perhaps in future posts I'll be able to discuss this topic and come to a definitive opinion.
Preston's Ponderings: Jesus' prediction of his coming as "The Son of Man" is taken directly from Daniel 7. But this connection demands that Matthew 16:27-28 cannot be divided into two topics, to be fulfilled at different times! A look at Daniel 7 with Matthew 16 proves that Christ's kingdom was to be established at his coming-- in the first century!
