Ligonier 2013 National Conference

In the upcoming days, I'll be at the Ligonier National Conference. The theme is "No Compromise". Over the next few days I'll comment on some of the highlights of the conference as well as provide as useful links that I come across. Here is the greeting and invitation for this year's national conference.

This will be my second conference and I'm looking forward to three jam packed days of teaching and encouragement. I specifically am excited to see Alistair Begg and Ravi Zacharias. I am also excited to hear Lawson and Beeke in their optional sessions. I know those really amount to little more than "book promotion" .... but I'm pretty set on getting books here so color me an eager audience! Below is the packed schedule. More to come in the following days.

The Article on Which the Church Stands or Falls

Was the Reformation debate over justification by faith alone a tempest in a teapot? There are many today who think so, many who argue that the Reformation is over. In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul will explain why the Reformers spoke of justification by faith alone as the article on which the church stands or falls, and why we are never to compromise on this essential truth of the Christian faith.
R.C. Sproul
2:15 p.m. 3:20 p.m.

Feet Firmly Planted in Midair

Most students entering college today believe that truth is relative, that what is true for you may not be true for me. In this message, Dr. Robert Godfrey will look at the influence relativism has had on our culture and explore the consequences. He will explain the absurd and self-defeating nature of relativism and remind us of God’s call to stand for the unchanging absolute truth of His Word.

Preach the Word

Many Christians today have been placed on a spiritual “bread-and-water” diet—an endless succession of personal anecdotes and manipulative techniques rather than the living and powerful Word of God preached. In this message, Dr. Alistair Begg will affirm the power and necessity of biblical preaching, explaining how the foolishness of preaching is God’s appointed method for reaching the lost and feeding the sheep.

Here I Stand

In every generation, new attacks on the veracity of Scripture arise, and the church faces a choice. Will she stand firm on the inspired Word of God, or will she capitulate to the Spirit of the Age? In this message, Dr. Steven Lawson explains why the church must never compromise her commitment to the inspired and inerrant Word of God, but rather remain firm in the face of all challenges.
Steven Lawson
9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m.

Family Tradition

What is a family, and who has the authority to define or redefine it? Our generation has witnessed radical attempts at redefinition by various interest groups. In this message, Cal Thomas will explore the culture’s assaults on the family and the very practical reasons why the church must speak to family issues. He will remind us that bad policy impacts the lives of real people in very negative ways.
Cal Thomas
11:20 a.m. 12:20 p.m.

Doctrine in the Dock

Throughout church history, there have been those who set theology and Christian living in opposition to one another. Yet, this was not the way of Jesus or the Apostles. In this message, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson will affirm the value and importance not only of the study of theology but the application of what we study to our hearts. It will look to Paul as a model of one who combined profound theology and heartfelt doxology.
Sinclair Ferguson
12:45 p.m. 1:30 p.m.

OPTIONAL SESSION: The Heroic Boldness of Martin Luther

Steven Lawson
2:20 p.m. 3:30 p.m.

Have Mercy

Despite the fact that Jesus associated with the sick, the sinful, and the socially outcast, many Christians have adopted an attitude similar to the Pharisees, who shunned those they deemed unworthy of compassion. In this message, Dr. Alistair Begg will call upon the church to practice true mercy toward those outside the church, reminding us that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. He will explain how the local church is to serve its members and reach out to those in its local community.
Alistair Begg
4:15 p.m. 5:15 p.m.

A Good Offense

Has the church capitulated to the politically correct spirit of the age to the point where it is more concerned about not offending men than it is about not angering God? In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. will remind us that seeking to remove the offense of the gospel is to remove the gospel, and that seeking to remove the gospel is a denial of our Lord Jesus Christ.
R.C. Sproul Jr.
6:10 p.m. 6:45 p.m.

OPTIONAL SESSION: Christians Get Depressed Too

David Murray
6:50 p.m. 7:25 p.m.

OPTIONAL SESSION: Economics for Everybody

RC Sproul Jr.
8:00 p.m. 8:50 p.m.

He Is Risen Indeed

The Apostle Paul told us that if Jesus is not risen from the dead, our faith is in vain. Yet, many professing Christians deny the physical resurrection of Christ. In this message, Dr. Ravi Zacharias will give a defense of the bodily resurrection of Jesus against modernist skeptics inside and outside the church and against postmoderns who don’t think it matters. He will explain that if Jesus is risen, nothing else matters, and that if Jesus is not risen, nothing else matters.
Ravi Zacharias

On This Rock

Two thousand years ago, the church was a tiny band of believers with an amazing message. Despite constant persecution from without and strife from within, this church has grown. In this message, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson will consider God’s promise that the gates of hell would not prevail against the church. He will encourage believers to stand firm in hope, clinging to the promise of God in the face of all that the enemy can throw at us.

No Compromise, No Surrender

Jesus Christ has ascended to the right hand of God and has received all authority in heaven and on earth. He is Lord. In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul will remind the church that the very first creed for which tens of thousands died is “Christ is Lord.” He will remind us that Jesus Christ is still Lord and that every assault on His kingdom is doomed to failure because the decisive battle has already been won.
R.C. Sproul
