So I took last week off from the blog because I was chaperoning 30 high school students on a trip to Las Vegas & the Grand Canyon. The trip was exactly what you would expect a trip with 30 high school students would be like...EXHAUSTING! That being said I'm looking to get back to the blog this week! Considering it's Monday and I'm back in the office I felt that it might be appropriate for me to share a quotation from a book I'm currently reading on work: Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller.Well it's actually a quote from Dorothy Sayers in Keller's book but the truthfulness of my previous sentence still holds:
The church's approach to an intelligent carpenter is usually confined to exhorting him to not be drunk and disorderly in his leisure hours and to come to church on Sundays. What the church should be telling him is this: that the very first demand that his religion makes upon him is that he should make good tables. When I read this yesterday I thought it wonderfully encapsulated one of the problems the church has fallen into over the past century or so. The problem is the separation between the "kingdom of God" and the world that we inhabit. When we see these realms as separate we inevitably begin to focus on not being tainted by the world instead of focusing on overcoming the dying powers of the world by our faithfulness to Christ in our vocation.
